There is freedom waiting for you, on the breezes of the sky
And you ask; What if I fall? Oh but my darling, What if you fly?

My Journey

I am originally from Athens, Greece where I spent the first 26 years of my life and I completed my first bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology. During the early years of my career, I supported children and young people’s personal development and wellbeing in a variety of settings by combining my education and my love for the theatre and the creative arts, working as a theatrical games group facilitator. I have also gained an invaluable experience working as a trainee counsellor in schools providing interventions against bullying and as a therapeutic support worker for teenagers addicted to drugs in a Centre of Therapy for Addicted People. During this time I also participated in a  two year training in Systemic Therapy.

I moved to Edinburgh, Scotland more than 10 years ago, where I studied psychology at Napier University and went on to complete an MSc in Children and Young People Mental Health from the University of Edinburgh. My attraction to psychology came from my willingness to better understand the motivations behind people’s behaviour, my interest in human relationships and the impact of our personal stories to how we view ourselves and relate to others. During the period of my studies, I worked as a support worker for children and young people with ASD in a nursery setting, and for a charity which supports lone parent families.

In 2019 I completed my Diploma in Counselling and Groupwork- A Cognitive Behavioural Approach. During my diploma and as part of my placement, I provided one to one therapy sessions to individuals experiencing anxiety and low mood and I developed and co-facilitated specialised workshops to psycho-educate and empower individuals on the topics of depression and challenging negative thinking at the Centre of Therapy, The Health Agency, the Scottish Association for Mental Health.

The application of the theoretical knowledge in my daily practice, the personal introspection through personal therapy and supervision, helped me gain awareness about the ways I relate to myself and others and also helped clarify how I would like to further my career.

I have been working in my private practice since 2019, offering one to one therapy sessions for people experiencing a variety of difficulties. I am grateful for this journey which was full of invaluable experiences, emotions, challenges, self awareness and personal and professional maturity.
